FAQ
Scholarship frequently asked questions.
How much is the scholarship award?
The scholarship award is RM10,000 per year. Depending on whether the course is 2, 3, or 4 years, the total value is RM20,000, RM30,000, or RM40,000 respectively.
Is there a limit on the length of course allowed?
Yes, the maximum length for a course is limited to four (4) years.
Is the amount dependent on the course enrolled?
No, the amount is the same RM10,000 per year for all courses.
What if the course fees are more than RM10,000 per year?
The difference will have to be made up by the applicant as the maximum dispersed per year is RM10,000 per student.
What if the course fees are less than RM10,000 per year?
The difference will be paid to the student as living expenses. For example, if course fees are RM6,600 per year, the balance RM3,400 will be paid as living expenses.
If I am taking a 4-year course, will RM40,000 be paid in the first year?
No. The scholarship is paid out on a semester basis and subject to the student remaining enrolled in the college, university, or vocational school. If the student is no longer enrolled due to failure to pass exams or any other reason, the scholarship stops immediately.
Are there restrictions on the type of course?
Yes. The scholarship is for first degree and diploma courses only, and the course must be approved and accredited by MQA. Diploma and degree courses from recognized universities or colleges are accepted, as are vocational courses. A Level, Pre-University, and Foundation courses do not qualify.

When is the deadline for 2025?
The last date for submission is 16 August 2025. Applications received after the deadline will be rejected.
How would I know if my application has been received?
An automatic response will be sent to acknowledge receipt of your application. Keep a copy as proof of submission. If you do not receive an automatic response, send an enquiry to [email protected], attention Ravi.
How will I know if I am successful?
The selection process has two steps. Candidates who meet the requirements will be shortlisted and called for an interview by email. If you do not receive an interview email, your application was not successful. Interviews may be conducted at St. George's Institution or online via Zoom. Applicants will be notified by WhatsApp or SMS. Successful candidates receive a provisional offer conditional upon proof of acceptance by the university or vocational school and signing of the Scholarship Agreement.
What happens if I fail to be accepted?
The provisional scholarship offer will lapse and the fund will be offered to another candidate.
When and how will funds be disbursed?
Once the award is confirmed, the successful candidate must sign a Scholarship Agreement. Funds are then disbursed in equal amounts for each semester. If there are two semesters in a year, the fund disburses RM5,000 per semester. Disbursements are paid directly to the student for fees and any surplus as living expenses.
Can I still apply for a PTPTN loan?
Yes. Depending on the university or vocational course, RM10,000 a year may not be enough to cover tuition fees and living expenses, so a loan may be useful. A PTPTN loan can also be a backup if the scholarship application is unsuccessful.
Can I accept another scholarship?
If you are offered another scholarship, you must decide which scholarship to accept. You are not permitted to receive two scholarships because the fund wants to help as many needy students as possible.
Does this cover private and overseas degree courses?
The scholarship can cover private universities or colleges as long as the course is in Malaysia and recognized by MQA. Candidates should note that private universities can cost more than the RM10,000 per year offered.
What if my family income is more than RM40,000 per year?
Family income is one of the ways the Scholarship Committee and Interview Panel evaluate need. If family income is slightly above RM40,000 per year, you may apply, but it will be considered case by case.
